Just a recap of the many things announced today during, for those who didn't attend or tend to be forgetful:
1. This will be kinda useless now that it's so late, but there will be sectionals tomorrow morning at 10.15 - 11.15 or earlier at either the Ensemble Studio or Seminar Room. Will practise Alleluia, Hope Faith Life Love, Amazing Grace.
2. IMPORTANT: regarding the full dress rehearsal on Saturday, please bring your black court shoes which should already be bought by now and your retro clothes which you will be wearing for the Abba segment of the concert. Practice will start with sectionals around 9.45am on Sat, with an hour long break for lunch about noon or 1pm and then continue till 5 - 5.30. Please do sleep early the night before and have a substantial breakfast before coming on Saturday. Bring water with you, and of course scores and notebook and the usual stuff.
3. Programme sheets are due LATEST Saturday morning! Please do your best to finish doing them by then and do as good a job as possible.
That's all. AND, please revise carefully and thoroughly your scores, especially the combined pieces and sacred pieces and the sections which you are especially unsure of. Play the tune on the piano over and over again and try to grasp the melody and rhythm as if it's an actual song, not a choral piece. For some, it'll be easier than reading scores. Also, remember all that Ms Ong has taught us all on voice support and placement. Following the correct technique she has been trying to teach will really help you project your voice, with the right quality(meaning NOT airy or soft), and so make life a lot easier for everyone, especially yourself. Support = when you exhale during singing, you must feel the muscles in your lower abdomen contract and tense up. It's like that. Your lower abdomen must keep expanding as you breathe out, and you must push out with your muscles. You might feel tension and even pain after you first start doing correct support, but you must and WILL get used to it. After a while, you won't even feel a thing. Trust me, it's not as hard as you think. Placement = open your mouth in an oval shape and sing tall - the sound, your voice must be at the back of the roof of your mouth. The most important thing is that you MUST, MUST, MUST open your mouth WIDE - your voice will NOT achieve the 'tall' effect, which is crucial for especially the sacred pieces, if you don't. You must STOP the air from escaping through your mouth when you sing; it must instead all come out from your nostrils. Breathing, whether in or out, must only take place through your NOSE, NEVER EVER your mouth.
TRY IT. Good night, see you all tomorrow. Happy last day of school.
